The book starts off with a flashback of Zeitoun's life in Jablah and about his first time going night fishing, then goes back to the current days with his wife, step-son, and his three daughters. Then they start talking about how forgetful he is and goes to another flashback about how he forgot his first born daughter on the lawn the day they got back from the hospital the day she was born. Then it talks about their sign for their painting and contracting business that they own. It has a rainbow on it, they meant for it to show the different colors of paint that their customers could choose from, but it was taken as they only hired gay people and that they only did work for gay people. And they listen to radio alot about how hurricane Katrina is in Florida and coming their direction, but no one is worried about it.
My Thoughts So Far
So far, to me, the book is kinda boring because it is mostly the peoples background, hopefully it will pick up in the next chapter.
-Hurricane Katrina was formed on August 25, 2005 and ended August 30, 2005.
-In the hurricane 1,836 people lost their lives and caused $81 billion in property damage.
-The hurricane affected Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.
