Pgs. 18-28 of Zeitoun

Zeitoun's Character
In these pages of the book we learn than Zeitoun is a very hardworking man and that, in a way, he kind of thinks he is invincible, like his father thought he was. The book tells us a story about when Zeitoun was working for a man, Charlie Saucier. Back then Zeitoun did not have his van, so he rode his bike to work everyday, one day the bike got a flat tire. He still had four miles to go and had 20 minutes to get there before being late, so he tried riding his bike there with the flat tire, then put the bike on his shoulders and started to run. He was very worried about being late and started thinking he was going to be fired, then his boss Charlie pulled up next to him and told him to get in the truck and told Zeitoun that he was the most hardworking man he knew.

Hurricane Suspense
Also in this part of book, we start hearing about the hurricane more. It is very suspenseful because we already know how bad the hurricane will be and that so many people die from it, and the characters in the book do not seem that worried about it and think that it will just be like the other hurricanes and wont cause that much damage.

Interesting Islamic Facts
-The word "Islam" literally means "Peace through the submission to God."
-Terrorism, unjustified violence, and the killing of innocent people is completely forbidden in Islam.
-"Muhammad" is the most common name in the world.

How Muslims are Perceived in the U.S.
Muslims in American society are being perceived as the "other", or their opposition. There are many reasons for this, but the main reason is 9/11. The attacks on September 11th were a series of coordinated events by al-Qaeda. Four planes were hijacked, two crashed into the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon, and the other crash landed in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people were killed. When it became official as to who was behind the attacks, all Islamic and Muslim people became American enemies.
